In patients who are at higher risk of developing lung cancer, such as in long-term smokers or those with asbestos exposure, low dose CT is an important tool in screening for early signs of lung cancer. Screening tests such as CT are important tools in detecting lung cancer early, at a point when it has a much better prognosis and can be more easily treated. If you undergo Low Dose CT Lung Screening, you may be asked to have a follow-up study within several months to a year, or possibly even undergo a PET scan or biopsy, depending on the findings of the screening CT.
