CT scans of the head provide anatomic information primarily about the brain. Non-contrast CT scans of the head/brain are usually the first line diagnostic test in many non-specific complaints, such as headache.

In addition to the brain itself, contrast enhanced CT angiography of the brain can analyze the arteries of the brain, primarily in assessing for possible cerebral aneurysms.
