Chest: This study is used to detect abnormal enlargement of the aorta in the chest, known as a thoracic aortic aneurysm, or aortic dissection, a tear in the wall of the aorta. CT angiogram (CTA) of the chest is also commonly used to detect blood clots in the lungs, known as pulmonary embolism (PE). These conditions are often associated with chest pain and shortness of breath.
