Although CT has become the mainstay of sinus imaging, MRI is still an important modality when it comes to the evaluation of the sinuses. In particular, MRI is of great value in differentiating between inflammatory masses of the sinuses, such as polyps, and sinus tumors. MRI can evaluate the extent of sinus tumor spread to adjacent structures, such as the brain, orbits, and important nerve pathways. MRI is also crucial in detecting recurrent tumor after surgery.
