Screening Mammography

Screening mammography is used to detect breast cancer early in asymptomatic women. Screening mammography has been shown to detect cancer at an earlier stage and decrease mortality from breast cancer. Women typically begin annual screening mammography at age 40, although some may begin earlier depending on risk factors. Some women may require additional studies to clarify findings seen on screening mammogram. This usually entails additional mammographic images and possibly ultrasound.
