How to Prepare for a CT Scan

If you’re getting a CT Scan or CT Angiogram with IV Contrast

Please DO NOT EAT for at least three (3) hours prior to your appointment.

IMPORTANT: Because of IV Contrast, you should stay hydrated and should drink 16 oz. of water prior to your exam and 16 oz. of water after your exam.

If you’re getting a Abdomen/Pelvis Scan with Oral Contrast (with & without IV contrast)

Pick up barium in our office at least one day before your appointment.

Drink barium over the course of one hour and have the bottle finished 30 minutes before your appointment.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT DRINK water while drinking the oral Barium.

If you’re getting a CT Enterogram (Volumen given by nurse in the office)

Arrive 1 hour before exam to drink Volumen.

Please DO NOT EAT OR DRINK for at least three (3) hours prior to your appointment.

IMPORTANT: Because of IV Contrast, you should stay hydrated and should drink 16 oz. of water prior to your exam and 16 oz. of water after your exam.

CT Colonography

Please see your physician for specific preparations for this procedure.

Cornorary CTA

Do not have any caffeine on the day of the exam. Do not eat 3 hours before the exam and drink 16 oz. of water before and after the exam.

Cardiac Calcium Scoring CT

Do not drink any caffeine on the day of the exam.

CT Arthrogram

Refrain from consuming any blood thinner medications, aspirin, Ibuprofen, Advil/Aleve 3 days prior to your exam.
